These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Who Made This? mobile application ("the App") operated by Austin Carpenter ("we," "us," or "our"). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
Who Made This? is a consumer information app that allows users to scan product barcodes and view corporate ownership information, including parent companies, related brands, and shareholder data. The App provides informational content only and is not intended as financial, investment, or legal advice.
To use the App, you must create an account using either Sign in with Apple or an email address and password. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must provide accurate information when creating your account and must be at least 13 years of age to use the App.
Free Tier: All users receive 10 free product scans upon account creation. Free scans do not expire.
Lifetime Premium ($7.99): A single one-time purchase that permanently unlocks unlimited scans and all premium features, including ethics scores, alternative brand suggestions, boycott/support lists, portfolio analytics, subsidiary ownership chains, and report exports. This is a non-consumable purchase processed through Apple. It does not expire, auto-renew, or require any recurring payment. Once purchased, Lifetime Premium is yours forever and can be restored on any device signed in to the same Apple ID.
All purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store and are subject to Apple's terms and conditions. Prices are displayed in your local currency. We do not process payments directly. For refund requests, please contact Apple Support or visit reportaproblem.apple.com.
We strive to provide accurate corporate ownership information, but we make no guarantees regarding the completeness, accuracy, or timeliness of the data presented. Corporate ownership structures change frequently through mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures. Brand Ethics Scores are based on publicly available ESG data and represent estimates, not definitive assessments. Users should independently verify any information before making decisions based on it.
You agree not to use the App in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations, to attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App, to use automated systems to access the App in a manner that sends more requests than a human could reasonably produce, to redistribute, sell, or sublicense the App or its data, or to use the App to harass, defame, or harm any person or company.
The App, its design, code, and original content are the property of Austin Carpenter and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Product names, brand names, and corporate information displayed in the App are the trademarks and property of their respective owners and are used for informational purposes only.
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO US FOR THE APP.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Austin Carpenter from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorney fees) arising from your use of the App or violation of these Terms.
We may terminate or suspend your account at any time for violation of these Terms. You may delete your account at any time through the App's Profile screen. Upon termination, your right to use the App ceases immediately. Sections 8, 9, 10, and 12 survive termination.
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State in which the operator resides, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction.
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will provide notice of material changes through the App or by updating the effective date above. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
